Pot (Toucher) Calls Kettle (MTV) Black

In this morning's newspile Toucher criticized MTV for censoring Nine Inch Nails' performance that would have used President Bush's Image as a backdrop.   He correctly noted the irony of MTV, which purports to be "counter-culture", being afraid to allow an artist to criticize the president. 

Last week 99XWatch.org issued a challenge to Toucher to share his opinion of Casino Lobbiest Ralph Reed with his radio audience.  To date, Toucher has been silent on Reed.

Susquehanna: Celebrating a Year of Spinelessness

As you might have noticed 99X has been broadcasting, several times each day, PSA's (Public Service Announcments) with a message of "Share the Road" with bicyclists.  Far from a result of the 99X's civic mindedness, these PSA's are a the result of a successful year long lobbying effort by a coalition of bicycle advocacy groups.  One can not help but think that if Susquehanna is so easily manipulated by a group operating from a Kinko's mail box, how might they have been manipulated by well funded Republicans and their appointed FCC Governors?

An Open Letter to Fred Toucher

Dear Fred,

In your blog last Friday, you criticize a recent article by Jimmy Baron Spouse/Sunday Paper Columnist/Republican Operative Lisa Baron in which she writes that Fred Toucher is the name that makes her husband "go nuclear."  Apparently missing the irony of being upset at someone for speaking her mind, you launch into a diatribe about the "sissifying of the American male." You conclude with "a lesson for all the men out there."  Your first two points:

1. Say what you believe
2. Fuck anyone who doesn't like it.

I agree.  Therefore, I would like to ask you to say what you believe.

On May 22, 2005 you wrote "Ralph Reed ... is a devil."  Yet not once have you criticicized his candidacy on your show, despite the near daily articles about his ethical lapses, many containing quotes from Ms. Baron. 

You owe it to your all of your listeners to speak your mind, not just the ones who read your message board.

Baron Misinforms on Minimum Wage

Echoing misinformation from Rush Limbaugh Jimmy Baron stated on today's 9:40 AM Newspile:

People are under the impression that minimum wage that you are supposed to be able to live on...and support yourself on...Look at the minimum wage jobs out ther--minimum wage jobs are for people like students, people who need supplementary income. Who in their right mind really thinks you can live and support yourself and food and an apartment on minimum wage? That's not what it's designed for it's not designed to be able to live on.

Lie:  "minimum wage jobs are for people like students, people who need supplementary income"

Truth:  According to the Economic Policy Institute:

Adults make up the largest share of workers who would benefit from a minimum wage increase: 72% of workers whose wages would be raised by a minimum wage increase to $7.25 by June 2007 are adults (age 20 or older)...Close to half (43.9%) of workers who would benefit from a minimum wage increase work full time and another third (34.5%) work between 20 and 34 hours per week.

Lie:  You're not supposed to be able to live on the minimum wage

Truth:   According to Robert Pollin, economics professor at the University of Massachusetts: "If the minimum wage had been raised with inflation and the productivity rate since 1968, when the minimum wage was at its peak...it would be $14.50 an hour."  "Minimum Security", The Nation, July 12, 2004 (subscription required).

Toucher: "That culture is a culture of savages"

Jimmy: Yeah, but it's not like you need to flush the Koran down the toilet to get the Muslims to demonstrate violently.  They don't need the greatest inspiration.

Toucher (sarcastically):  I don't know Jimmy, that's unfair to stereotype, they seem like a level-headed people.

Jimmy (sarcastically):  Yes, that's true they don't usually resort to that kind of thing.

Toucher:  Especially when the Ayatollah died and they celebrated..or...they mourned by, like, pulling at the coffin...

Jimmy:  Yeah, it was the best funeral I've ever seen...

Toucher:  They can't control themselves to such a degree...

Jimmy:  Very emotional

Toucher: ...That out of respect this person who's like a god to them..."Oh, I must be around the body"...they celebrate...or they mourn...by shaking the body loose...

Jimmy:  The Ayatollah's body popped out of the coffin...

Toucher ...cause they're savage people...savages...that whole culture.  That whole culture is a culture of savages.

TL&J Gloss Over TSA Management Failures

This morning's Newspile contained a story juxtaposing a story reporting the failure of the TSA to adequately train and equip its employees with an earlier report of waste and possible fraud at the TSA.  Rather than discuss the Bush administration's culpability in appointing incompetent people, Toucher took the opportunity to brush off his Butterfly McQueen impression and make fun of TSA employees.   In the four years since its inception the Bush administration has appointed four different people to head the TSA.

New Segment? Conservative Hack of the Week

Last week the TL&J Show hosted conservative sell-out Dennis Miller.  Today the show prank called right-wing apparatchik Sean Hannity.

Baron: "It's some sort of Hispanic group"

After a relatively long hiatus from anti-progressive talk, the TL&J show bounced back this morning.  During the 8:30 news pile, Toucher(!) dismissed a small group of protesters wearing "We Support Anna Ayala" t-shirts as people going to a lot of effort to be "ironic".  Jimmy Baron disagreed with Toucher and suggested that supporters of the Wendy's hoax suspect were serious and probably "some sort of Hispanic group".  A Google news search of all of the stories containing the phrase "We Support Anna Ayala" had no mention of the ethnic composition of the group.  Conservatives often associate fringe (or fake) protests with legitimate advocacy groups in order to discredit the group.  99XWatch.org has documented previous attempts by the TJ&L Show to discredit Hispanic advocacy groups.
