Clear Channel is to Susquehanna as Sadam Hussein is to Muhammad Saeed al-Sahhaf.* That being said--funny is funny. Wrapping up a running bit and alluding to an unintentionally candid comment by his former boss, Chris Williams, program director for WBZY, 1053 the Buzz, released the following statement:
Atlanta, Georgia. April 28, 2006 – WBZY, 1053 the Buzz made the announcement this morning during morning drive. The announcement was made by Jimmy’s co-host Whip. “After 12 years together, which, to me, felt like just 11 days, I'm sad to announce that Jimmy, co-host of the Whip and Jimmy show, is retiring. The professionalism, humor, and knowledge of menorahs that Jimmy brought to the show is irreplaceable. Jimmy was the true "spirit" that "was" 1053 the Buzz. To capture best the contribution that Jimmy brought to the Whip and Jimmy show we will observe a moment of silence next Tuesday, May the 2nd at 9am.” Unfortunately Jimmy was out this morning and therefore was not able to say his goodbyes to the audience on the air.
“Out of respect to Jimmy’s long standing relationship with the audience, we felt it was important to make this announcement on the air before it went public in a press release.” said 1053 the Buzz Program Director Chris Williams. “Once the decision was made we felt that misleading the audience and turning this into a protracted goodbye just wouldn’t be fair to everything Jimmy has done to contribute to the long term success of our station. We wish Jimmy nothing but the best.”
