Giant Show to Start Monday

Former 99X PD Chris Williams introduced the Giant Brian show today at 5pm.  Brian compared his new show to other local shows:

We'll be he Bert Show with a sack.
We'll be the Viva morning show with green cards.
We'll be the white V-103.

But the roughest barbs were reserved for 99X.

We'll be the New Morning X with talent.

I know what you’re thinking: 99X still has a morning show? Leslie Fram died four years ago. Thanks to Energizer, she’s still running strong

Crash

Crash sent me the the following parody of a certain former coworker's latest blog entry.  Crash prefaced it by writing "I love Jimmy and wish him well but felt like being a smart ass."

Well I didn’t the gig at NPR; it came down to me and another guy who wasn’t labeled a sexual deviant in the city of Atlanta. I respect their decision and they were very complimentary saying, “we won’t press any further charges is you agree to stop sending us tapes and resumes.” The whole experience was quite exciting for me having a chance to come back to the city where I spent 20 years of my radio career. As I was being led away by the Atlanta police I asked if I could fill in part time for anyone, on air, behind the scenes, promotions, a baby sitter or even a copy boy in the mail room. You win some, you lose some right? Or as I like to say, “Hey, quit your bitching, you got front row tickets to 311 didn’t you?” I’m sure I’ll Blog more once I do something equally exciting.

Jimmy Close But No Cigar on Atlanta & Co.

Well I didn't get the Atlanta & Co. gig. Spoke with the folks at 11Alive this afternoon and they confirmed that it came down to Tom Sullivan and me, and that got the nod. This doesn't come as a huge surprise because they were pretty upfront with me from the beginning that he was all but a shoe-in. As I've mentioned, he's been their regular fill-in guy for the two seasons the show's been on the air and they felt his loyalty and dependability earned him a shot, so I can live with that. They were extremely complimentary, however, and did ask if I'd be available as the regular substitute host when the occasion called for it. They also said they'd like to utilize me on air in other ways as opportunities arose.

Funny Premise, Unfunny Execution, and Fake to Boot

The premise is funny:  Herbert from the Family Guy interviews a kid from Kid Nation.  The thing is, it's not funny at all.  What is funny is that the interview was faked.  There isn't a "Jesse" in Kid Nation.

Just got word that the powers that be over there have decided they want to take another look at a couple of the stronger contenders for the show so they've asked me back for this Tuesday. I don't know who the other finalists are but I could probably take an educated guess at one or two of the others. I'm sure Tom Sullivan from Star 94 will be one of the call-backs because he's their regular fill-in host on the show and he's pretty good, and I'm sure Frank Ski will be given another shot because, well, he's Frank Ski. Hard to predict the others (if, in fact, there are others).

Wally the Progressive

Wally, who was the poster boy for conservative Christians during his tenure at 99X, now days is defending himself for being too progressive:

Night time radio personality "Wally "of Total Axxess Christian Radio responded passionately on the evening of August 16 to a complaint sent to the station the night before via email. Sent from an angry pastor who was not named, the email expressed the pastor's disapproval of the show playing the popular mainstream song "I'm Going Home," performed by American Idol finalist Chris Daughtry's band, "Daughtry."

After some hesitation on how to respond, the radio station gave Wally the microphone, allowing him a chance to defend the station's stance. Understandably upset, Wally told listeners that this kind of attitude was exactly what turns non-believers against Christianity, and ultimately against God. Addressing the pastor himself, Wally went on to say that this sort of mentality is not going to keep people in church, and that it is this kind of behavior that turns people away from the Christian church in general.

Wally has been doing a syndicated Christian radio show called Total Axxess.  While the station is non-commercial, it does give him the opportunity to rock the occasional air guitar:
